special projects
Participating in Eurochild special projects is an ideal way for children
up to the age of 12 to learn about various cultural differences in Europe.
Project participation encourages the breakdown of barriers between communities
through the collaborative production and exploration of various issues.
We will include some of our special projects during the Eurochild Festival
in Cork in June. We will also publish some of our special projects on
the website.
Listed below are some ideas for projects which can be linked to schools across Europe.
Projects should explore a common theme. This year’s theme for Eurochild is “Diversity Among Cultures.”
1:Interview members of the older generation – ask them what songs they remember from their youth, what the city/village looked like then, what forms of transport were used etc.
2: Photograph things from your community – the park, the school, friends and family to illustrate your life. Imagine you are a reporter from a newspaper, reporting on the community.
3:Find out more about the customs and traditions of another culture and illustrate with a story or storyboard.
4:What fairytales and mythological stories do you remember being told when you were very young? Ask someone from another culture to tell you some fairytales and write them down with illustrations.
5:Exchange emails with another school about your hobbies, food that you like, pets that you have etc.
6: Make a short video of your day at home or in school.
7:Visit cultural sites such as museums and take photographs to illustrate various factors that have shaped your country’s heritage and history.
8: Write a project on the different plants in your area. Are there woodlands, or lakes or the sea near to you? What kind of trees are in your park? This will give a visual image to others of the type of landscape that surrounds you.
9:Find out what animals once used to inhabit the areas around you. Do you have a zoo nearby and are any of these animals indigenous to your country? Video, photograph or draw the animals.
10:What kinds of sport do you play? What sport is popular in your country and what do you like watching? What do your parents watch?
11:What kind of music do you like and do you play an instrument? What kinds of music have you been exposed to and has this enabled you enjoy music? Write about the different music that you enjoy. Make a recording of you and your friends playing music.
12:Make a booklet of artwork from you classmates and send it to a partner school to exchange ideas on art, what you draw and why.
13:Seasons: What is winter like in your country? What is summer like? Do you go on holidays? Where to?
